PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
I am using PT10.3.10 and recently encountered a problem with Waves plugins I've been using for a few months now (without a hitch). It seems that if I have the CLA Vocals plugin or the Vocal Rider plugin on a track and pull it up to make an adjustment to it, PT freezes up completely. Here are a few oddities I've found, though: Yesterday, CLA Vocals froze PT, but Vocal Rider was fine. Today, both plugins freeze PT. Another oddity is that when CLA freezes PT, the cursor will not move. When Vocal Rider seizes PT, I can move the cursor with the mouse, but nothing will respond to it. I've been reluctant to try this with any other Waves plugins until I can get the situation worked out. Its sudden occurrence certainly has me confused. Thanks in advance for your help. A Sandra Report is posted below.

Re: PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
I'm not a PT user, but had similar issue (I'm on Win7 64x too). Just call Waves tech support, they should sort it out. In my case it was graphics driver.

Re: PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
Thanks Andy. I emailed customer service at Waves and that's exactly what they said they thought it might be. It's curious to see you had the same problem with a different DAW. I updated my graphics driver 2-3 months ago, but maybe it needs it again. I'll try it and see if it helps. Thanks for your reply.

Re: PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
You are welcome of course :) If what they proposed by e-mail did not work, why would you hesitate to call them? Waves have excellent phone support, free if you have WUP, open 20 hours per day, I'm sure you can make use of it. This will be much faster than e-mailing. You can spend time with them online trying some options.
P.S. Also you can ask for callback if it is an expensive long-distance call for you. They will do it at their expense. Last edited by Andy Gone; 07-03-2015 at 09:46 AM. Reason: Added P.S. |

Re: PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
I trashed my Pro Tools preferences and spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with a tech from Waves while he dug around in my computer. Turns out my graphics driver was already updated, which is what I'd assumed since I'd done that only a couple months ago. He tried everything he could think of, finishing up by uninstalling and reinstalling all my Waves plugins. Nothing worked. He claimed the session must be corrupt, but it happened in two different unrelated sessions and only affects Waves plugins. I will say that these are the two largest sessions I've been working on lately with lots of plugins, but all the other plugins, both aftermarket and Pro Tools plugins, behaved themselves. Does anyone have any suggestions I might try now? Thanks.

Re: PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
Hmm. Odd. I have never been unresolved with Waves Tech Support. I did have a couple times they asked if they could confer with the rest of the department and call me back, but the. Had me sorted once they did.
So I'm sure they're gonna be calling you back? Not like WTS to just leave an issue unresolved In the reinstall procedure you mentioned, was everything Waves uninstalled? Then manually deleted waves cache/prefs, and any wave shells? I ALWAYS do this in my uninstalls I don't have 10 around so I can't test this. Have you made a brand new session and tested this? Did you try a new session and then import session data from the trouble session? You said two sessions, but nothin about new sessions. This seems random

Re: PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
The tech seemed resolved to the fact that it was a corrupt session and made no mention of getting back to me. When I told him it involved two different sessions and only Waves plugins, no others, he still could not offer any possibility other than that. While I tend to agree with him, it still seems odd to me that, out of the clear blue, two sessions have a form of corruption that only affects Waves plugins. Putting a new Waves plugin on these sessions has the same results. However, if I open a new session and put a Waves plugin on it, it reacts fine. As far as I know, he uninstalled everything Waves on my computer, then re-installed it. I have not yet imported session data into a new session. That's my next step.

Re: PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
Waves is really on point. If a new session does not exhibit the behavior, it's safe to say that it is something else causing the issue.
I understand how easy it would be to point directly at Waves, but from the sounds of the behaviors, I highly doubt it has anything to do with their plugs as the cause. I do think a new session, and importing session data, is a good move. If you get the same behavior, save copy as, including all audio, then take the copy session and consolidate all audio, and delete all unused audio files, then do a new session and import that. I'm thinking something is corrupt in those sessions. I've had a few corrupt sessions over the years. I also had some issues with some sessions that were recorded on a PT8LE rig with a 002R when I worked with them on my HD Native rig on PTHD11 and HD I/O's... some real weird stuff, that, at first glance, would maybe make some point to plugins also - but removing all plugs verified that wasn't it.... I did new sessions and imported session data, and that got me through most of em... but a could had to be consolidated.... and that worked... I think their could have been corrupted audio files or something, because consolidating (making new files) and removing all the old files resolved it (imported to new session)... Hard to say exactly what those issues were exactly (CPU spikes and glitchy plugins) - but these things worked for me with those sessions, and that was all session specific - so, just thought that path or troubleshooting might be relevant for you. Hope this helps

Re: PT 10.3.10 and Waves plugins
Thanks for your help, Shorty. I'm not saying necessarily that a Waves plugin is responsible for the problem I'm having. It probably is a corrupt session, but the only thing the corruption is affecting is Waves plugins, both their CLA Vocals plugin and their Vocal Rider plugin. Both these sessions are close to completion. On one, I simply removed the CLA vocal plugin and replaced it with a similar plugin from another company and completed the session without incident. I need to get these two sessions completed to finish a project that's due, so working around the problem is the simplest right now. I've never had to import data to another session before (though I understand how to do it), and I've been told that I'd have to import the audio into another session and leave the plugins behind (to avoid the corruption), then start my mix from scratch. I just don't have enough time for that right now, as deadline approaches. But I hope to come back to this and try importing to a new session to see if it helps. I hope it does, because currently I must say I've lost faith in Waves plugins, but I like their sound and their ease of operation, so I'd like to use them again at some point. Thanks again.

Quote:
Other things come to mind too, such as what version OS you are running, etc. I've not had issues with Waves outside a couple minor things that have been fixed, and periodic waveshell issues when installing new plugs - but the whole uninstall/reinstall procedure I explained avoids that. I'm not saying it isn't a waves issue, or only effecting waves, cause I guess it could be, but I sorta doubt it highly. Sounds odd. Not like any of the issues I've come across. I'd take those two trouble sessions and do the data imports. Good place to start searching. Also wanna check and make sure your OS Version, PT Version, and Waves Versions are all compatible/supported. Hope none of this is 'insulting' you or your skill/intelligence... just throwing it all out there and running through my personal experience and thought process
