Default Would this build and W8 work for PT10?

Intel Core i7-3770K avec 3.50 GHz
16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
120 GB SATA 3 SSD
1.0 TB SATA 3 HDD
Lecteur Blu-ray / Graveur DVD

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Microsoft Windows 8
Recovery pré-installé
Boîtier Cubitek Tattoo Pro
USB 3.0 & HDMI

I may be posting this in the wrong place. Let me know..

This is for a friend of mine and I don't think he'll need a FW port.

I did see this video for getting W8 to install and run PT10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2RYRfdkSlE .Seemed convincing. Thank you.

I don't get why folks want to use an unqualified OS with PT. It's asking for it IMHO. just sayin'

Well....not only would I NOT use Windows 8, I would not use Ivy Bridge either. Socket 2011 i7 and X79 motherboard is the only combo I would build today. If that is too expensive, I would search eBay for a used socket 1366 system with x58 motherboard, i7 950(or higher) and 3x4 triple channel RAM. Just 1 opinion

This is not a good approach...

Having just succesfully built a socket 2011 "sandy bridge" x79 Mobo class rig I and many others here can safely reco that build. If you do your due diligence here one the DUC you will find almost 100% success with "Sandy's" and not as much for "Ivy's"... At least as Win7 rigs.

BTW I ran Win8 successfully with PT 10.3. X but did not like how some plugs didn't work so my new rig is good old solid Win7. The Win8 rig is now a gamer box and about the best thing I can say about 8 is that you can make it work sorta like 7, and in some cases have to run XP compato mode! So what's the point of even going there. Not a reco.

Do heed the advice here on the DUC about this and you won't be sorry. If you can swing the cost of an i7 3930k CPU you will never look back...it's the top of the ladder in performance and stability.

Just to echo stick with what's working. I would by two boot drives. Load Windows7 And wait for Win8's approval. Also there's supposed to be a update to Win8 later in the year called "Blue" I'm not sure I wouldn't wait till that. But that probably won't be approved till fall

Yes !!! When I built my rig (a while ago now) I followed the advice of the many knowledgable people here on the DUC; my rig has proven to be stable and powerful. Venturing outside of the "known to work with ProTools" realm may cause headaches. Check out this thread, especially the first 2 posts: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=238426

Thank you, gentlemen, for your time and good advice! I have recommended to the friend that he gets the X79 etc and installs it on a W7 platform. Viva, DUC!
