Default PT HD Voice Trouble with Expansion HD

Dear all users,
I work on a protools 8.01cs2 HD3(1 HD CORE 2 HD ACCEL) with an expansion HD (ethernet)
My mac pro is 2x2,66 dual core with 4gb 667 MHz ram on 10.5.7.
When i create a session (24bit 48kHz, BWF), and create more than 84 voices (78 stereo tracks for example + 6 voices for blank session ) the protools said

The system could not keep with Expansion/HD.
Please keep Pro Tools in the foreground. Also try
closing any background applications, increasing the
H/W Buffer size, or reducing RTAS Plug-In usage.

I try digitest is ok.
I remove Protools prefs , delete dae prefs and restart
I try alos remove all other plug in plug in folder (exept stereo mixer and surond mixer).
i try with all kind of buffer size. all kind of host processors and numbers of voices.
I try on ide hard drive, firewire hard drive, scsi hard drive
Same problem.
When in system allocated Voices Allocated go after 84 my system cannot run anymore. even with no sound in the session.

Normally I m good to solve problem, but today it s a hard day for me.
Please anyone can help me, i would aprreciate.
I m a french sound editor, working in Ha Noi on a gouvernmemt studio for a very beautifull vietnamese feature fim...please save us

Hi!

How long have you been running that setup? It was my understanding that the expansion HD was not at all compatible with Mac pro. That's why I switched from the expansion hd to a magma.

I know that might not be much help, but if this is a new system.. You need a magma!! They are great!

If you have been running with it and these problems are new, has anything else changed in your setup recently?

Peace

Hi,

It is compatible with intel. so thats not the main problem. Its just not compatible with Snow Leopard. or beyond PT 8.0.1

Ahhh.. Thanks Chris! Sorry for the misinformation! But like I said... Loving the Magma!!

@Stig... System specs are in my signature... But here it is: A Harpertown (MacPro 3,1) dual 3.0. Using VEPro for VI's and it is awesome! I keep thinking I'll network VE to my old G5 as well, but I haven't hit the wall yet, and frankly, am quite happy that the G5 isn't getting powered up for weeks at a time!

I haven't pulled the trigger on PT9 yet... a bit to busy to dive in, but it seems like things are smooth for Magma folks who install as per specs... Maybe next month I'll start a fresh drive and see how she goes!

peace

Hi everyone,
The mac pro is The first Intel-based tower Mac, the Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.66 is powered by two 2.66 GHz dual core Intel Xeon 5150 processors with 4 MB of shared level 2 cache per processor, a 128-bit SSE3 vector engine, and 1.33 GHz "64-bit dual independent frontside buses." It have been introduce in august 2006.
you can see exact spec here :http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl....66-specs.html
The Gouvernment studio bought all the equipment in 2007 (expansion HD (HD3), Mac pro, Mojo SD), but they never use protools than more with 30 tracks for dubbing mono film. Now I come to vietnam to work on a nice film, produced by the gouvernement studio. but this time I work in 5.1 and they never try before. My session template in Paris, used to have 150 tracks.. I'm a little bit limited with only 84 voices...

No one meet this problem before ?

thanks to try to help me, I appreciate a lot.
Franck

From my experience you'd be better off with Pro Tools 7.4.2 if you want to continue to run the Expansion|HD. We've never had it be stable with PT8. You might want to give that a try on your system, as "your mileage may vary" with anything Expansion|HD related...

Have you tried to increase your DAE buffers and buffer size? Please post a screen shot of your Playback settings.
