Default If Pro Tools 12 is not released before March 2015...

If Pro Tools 12 is not released before March 2015...
...or maybe I will put it another way:

If Pro Tools 12 is released after March 2015, people that purchased extended subscription before December 31st 2014 will be in worse position than people who decided to wait.

Let's say Pro Tools 12 comes out in August. I will pay $599 for the upgrade from HD10 and I will get upgrades through August 2016, compared to March 2016 for people who subscribed in December 2014. Am I right?

Right. Exactly what I was thinking.

And I don't care if they call it 11.4. All I want to know is that I didn't waste $600 buying into the new plan last month.

No you're not right. Unless that person was already on 11 and mistakenly bought the upgrade. If they were a 9 or 10 user, then they bought the use of 11 during all that time.

Software speaking.
If they remained in version 9/10, my read was there is no longer an upgrade to 11. Just a full buy in.

If you did the upgrade and if the next version of PTs never arrives (unlikely) then you can renew your support plan.

The Avid Store still shows an upgrade from PT10 to PT11 at $199.

Yes for ONE year support plan. The offer was for 15 months before 31 Dec so now it is $199 as it should be. It's a subscription and they rarely increase in price after announced so now its one year support plan when upgrading and thats what Avid has said all along...

That's right. I was thinking about someone with similar approach to mine: with version 10 and wants to upgrade to 12 (or 11.5 with freeze and collaboration) when it comes out. There is additional money to spend to update Waves, Sonnox, Massey, etc. that It's difficult to justify upgrading HD 10 to HD 11. Version 12 will bring a bit more to the table. I've got quite a few friends who wait like me.

Got it. So the offer today is for 12 months, not 15. I had been under the impression that the upgrade would be more expensive after Dec. 31.

It will be interesting to see what features Avid has on the burner and how many PT11 will upgrade.

I would think any new change for 2015 will come down this week. If not, something like March/April when the AVID Everywhere convention happens again.

The Avid Connect convention has a fee of $395! It is the weekend before the NAB.
