Default PT10 Not Playing/Recording

Hello friends. I recently got a new computer hoping to run Pro Tools 10 with it. The problem is, it doesn't seem to like my interface. I'm using a Zoom R16 interface. When I load up a session and try to record a track, the play, pause, and stop buttons start flashing. Or sometimes, the stop will just flash once and then nothing will happen. I've invested a lot of time into this. My OS is up to date. I have the most recent version of Pro Tools, R16 driver, and firmware. The only thing I can think of that could be causing the problem is my CPU. The driver page for the R16 "recommends" Intel chipset, but I have an AMD processor. However, I've been told by at least 3 very intelligent individuals that shouldn't really matter. Playback/record function fine when I use my Mbox Mini in place of the R16, but then I might as well just go back to using my XP machine if that's all I can do. The frustrating thing is that the R16 does work on my friend's computer. And the only difference I'm aware of between his and mine that could possibly matter are that he has an Intel CPU. But again, that shouldn't matter! This is driving me insane. I've been all over the internet looking for a solution. I/O settings are fine. I deleted prefs. The interface works as a sound card with Windows, but not with Pro Tools. What to do??

Are those intelligent people avid audio engineers?

How About software designers? degrees? working in the industry?

I'm trying to be a jerk here but I'm just trying to get you to understand the relevance of your statement.

So is what I would do is I would start a ProTools session without the zoom connected (aiso 4 all)

make sure you don't have any problems there record some audio mix plugs and see how it goes

You do have aiso 4 all installed don't you ?

Fair question. Point is, I trust that they know what they're talking about. They are all either full-time audio or computer techs, either with a degree, years of experience, or both.

I thought I mentioned everything that was relevant. Forgive my poor judgement.

So I did some further tinkering and now I'm able to record flawlessly. However, now there seems to be a problem with the playback engine. During playback, the audio is very choppy and slow, and it seems to worsen in sessions with higher track counts...

I do. That's what got me to where I am now. I can record, but playback is choppy. All functions work fine with a different interface.

Looks like your bottleneck is in your HD. You only have 1 in your box? Should have at least 2, 1 for PT's (C), and 1 to record to. Also would be good if you got an HD with at least 32 MB cache to record to!!

Curious^^ I took the report to show 3 or 4 hard drives. If indeed you have a single drive that is partitioned, that is the very first thing to address. WD Caviar Black drives are an excellent choice for recording. The next thing to consider is; maybe pull the nVidia graphics card and try a modest ATI card(ATI tends to work better with AMD systems, while nVidia cards tend to work better on intel). Granted, this would be an experiment, but it would would only be a $30-50 one. If all else fails, its possible that this is one of the AMD cpu's that just doesn't like Pro Tools. In that case, I would check out Reaper, Cubase or Sonar.

Thanks Dave for correcting me here. I wasn't sure on the drives, and also I copied the memory instead of drive #'s. PitchAndTimbre, sure hope you can get this resolved! Good luck,,, Mike

May I ask why you suggested a partitioned drive is the possible cause for the play pause stop issue?

thanks.
