Not sure about your I5 CPU, but my i7 have 6 physical/realHW cores while windows reports 12 virtual cores. To disable PT from executing in the lowest enumerated physical core I have to un-check the two lowest virtual cores. Presumably it's the same for your CPU.

So why lowest enumerated cores. Well... I did a lot of testing and measurements using latencymon. From this I concluded that the lowest cores yielded the best results. Seems to me (I speculate here) that windows puts windowsy- jobs on low cores, making them kinda busy and perhaps prone to IRQ/DPC glitches. However, for your PC it might be different. Testing adviced. And while doing so, try to have only ONE core checked, then two, three, and so in.

was a culprit in my laptop. Inactivated it and everything was fine. However after some time the battery broke.

One drive settings can totally halt everything. If one drive is set to sync cloud with files accessed/ altered by PT such as PT session files, then everything comes to pretty much of a halt.

Default settings on my PC for OneDrive was to sync anything on the desktop. That's where I kept PT work in progress.

I uninstalled OneDrive...
