Which clock to use - 003R with MOTU 828MKII?

I'm going to be using these two units together for a project, connecting the 003R and the 828 via both S/PDIF and ADAT and Word Clock if needed. Which has the better clock and which output would you use? Project is at 44.1, so ADAT limit of 48k is not an issue. Thanks.

The simple way is to use the ADAT out of the Motu box and slave protools to ADAT. I see no reason to use the SPDIF or Wordclock for this setup.

Hey Albee, I too have wondered about any differences between using ADAT vs wordclock. I have a RME fireface 800, a M=Audio octane and the 003R.

I've been going Octane to RME Which supposedly will "clean up any incoming clock vagaries) and lastly to the 003 all via BNC wordclock. I run an ADAT cable from the octane to the 003 and take the mic channels on the fireface (channels 7,8,9,10) as direct outs from the RME. BTW I have to say the RME is a great piece of kit. Compared to the 003 I have had no problems maintaining communication with the computer (8 core macpro 2.8). I bought it becuase I wanted to learn cubase 4---not my cup of tea, I like Protools way better.

Would you hook it up differently. It seems to work fine. What are the theoretical advantages to Word clock over other sync types?

I hear nothing but great stuff regarding the RME stuff so if you have it working as master, I would keep on doing what you're doing. Ultimately, if it sounds good, it IS good.
