Default Recomendations on PT Setup

I am close to buying a PT setup and I would like some feedback on my intended configuration:

PT 24 Mix (Mac G3/400)
2 882/IO for midi modules & mics to start
Mackie HUI
Avalon M5 Pres
Apogee Rosetta -> Spdif -> 882/IO
GLYPH Trip Rack (CD Burner, Hot swap drives)

Comments welcomed.

Sounds great. I just have one thought for you. We were caught off-guard by the limited PCI slots in the blue and white G3. Your setup as listed will fit no problem, but be aware that if you need more than 3 cards in your machine (scsi, more PT, more monitors) you will be looking at $1500 for an expansion chassis in addition to the cards...

Thanks Adam. I am quite aware of the limited slots in the G3. I plan on getting an expansion chassis at some point in the near future. Any recommendations? Whose should I look at? I'd like to have 24 I/Os. Of course an AD8000 would be great, but I might go for the 888/24. Either way I'd have to get another card for the additional I/O.

Your comments are well taken.

I would go with the Bit3 PCI Expansion chassis (I have the 7 slot running on my Beige G3/300). It has worked flawlessly for me for the last 11 months. The Glyph Trip rules! Go for 2 x 18GB Hot swap Cheetahs, the Yamaha 6416 CD Burner and the SONY AIT Tape drive...also flawless. You may want to check out the CM Automation MotorMix before you go for the HUI......

My 2 cents.....

Jim

Jim,

Thanks for the 2 cents! I already have the Trip rack with 1 hot swap 9GB drive and the Yamaha CD burner. I have another hot swap bay for another drive -- gotta go 18GB. I would like to fill the last slot with the tape drive eventually. Gotta get the rest of my stuff first. I'll check out the bay.

Cool.
