? about PT HD upgrade/exchange offer

We don't have a specific release date to share with you regarding Windows support for Pro Tools|HD, but we do hope that it will be available sometime in Q2 2002. The best way to keep an eye on this release is to check the News or Compatibility sections of our web site periodically.

I see that there is currently special pricing for upgrading/exchanging from PT Mix to PT HD. I see that the offer is for a limited time until June 30,2002. Is the Windows version of PT HD going to be released before the special exchange pricing ends? Is there a better know ETA for the release of the Windows version?

I have always had a sense that Digidesign behaves fairly. I also have gleaned that TDM Windows users express concern about their status in the hierarchy of Digidesign's concerns, and that Digidesign attempts to ensure a sense of stability and evenhandedness between the two OS system releases. The above response does not address one of the two original questions. It would be good public relations to make clear a similar upgrade policy. To me, it seems fairest to state that upon release, there will be an upgrade period for as long as the original upgrade period (about 6 months, if I remember right), and at the same prices. I suspect that by responding at all to this posting, but without answering that concern (and to have not already made it clear officially on the main website) is just the kind of mis-communication that evokes the sense of un-ease that is often expressed in postings and in the community in general.

I agree. My questions in the original post stem from the fear that I, as a Windows user, will not be able to take advantage of special upgrade/exchage pricing like our Mac counterparts. If there are development or production delays, Q2 may turn into Q3 and we'll be shut out of the promo intro exchange rates.

Second to that is the fear that upon hearing of a possible Win shipping delay, I don't want to have to exchange my PT Mix system in before the June deadline to get the preferred rates, be without PT functionality (since I would only have Mac software) while I wait for the Win PT HD software to be released.

Anyways, I guess my real question is not when Win support will be available, as much as whether or not Win users will have an equal opportunity (and time frame) to exchange legacy hardware for HD hardware at these special introductary rates.

Digidesign will be extending the deadline of our Pro Tools|HD Hardware Exchange Program Introductory Offer for registered Windows NT/2000 Pro Tools|24 MIX owners from June 30, 2002 to August 31, 2002.

In order to take advantage of the introductory pricing, the system must have been purchased or ownership transferred by January 16, 2002.
