Default Pro Tools 7 LE/8 Upgrade Software

My computer crashed and therefore I had to buy a new one. I got the same Dell XPS 8700, Windows 7 O/S.

My question is this..I have the Pro Tools LE 8 Software Upgrade disk. Will I need to install Pro Tools 7 LE for version 8 to work?

LE8 is a full installer so you don't need 7. BUT, before you install, download the 8.0.5 updater(you need this for Windows 7). Then, when you are ready to install, do it like this:

If you have 002 or 003, with EVERYTHING OFF, connect the FW cable, but leave the 002/003 OFF for now. Mboxes, just go to the next step.

Run the installer you have(or download the 8.0.3 installer and run that). When the installer asks you to connect the interface DO NOT. Just click on Okay, let it finish and reboot.

Then run the 8.0.5 updater. When the updater asks for the interface, connect the Mbox, or power ON the 002/003, wait about 8 seconds, then click Okay, let it finish and reboot. Now have your LE8 authorization code handy(the one that starts with "DIGI08....."

Remember, if you see any popups saying "New Hardware Found", do NOT click on them at all. Just ignore them and they will go away be themselves. And, NEVER hot-patch 002 or 003 as that can(and will) fry the FW circuit in the 002/003, the FW card in the computer, or even both

Thanks Albee. I haven't installed Pro Tools like three years so my memory is a bit foggy. I have the authorization code beginning with DIGI. Will I need anything else? Like an iLok, or any type of activation codes? Someone told me once I register Pro Tools I can't re-install it and register it with the same DIGI codes, or any other authorization codes.

As long as you have an authorization code for LE8, you should be all set(read my other post one more time or maybe print it out as each and every detail matters
