Default I\'m New to \"Bussing\"

First of all, thanks to everyone that responded to my double snare micing question...sorry I didnt have a chance to reply when the post was up....

I am fairly new to mixing and bussing to another track so bare with me

Let's say I'm bussing the drums...I get my level's right...then send the individual tracks to a stereo buss...if I need to make any kind of change, like turning up the snare... is there anyway to hear the play back without having to hit record on the drum mix track?

all the drum's outputs are sending to "bus 1-2"

Or do I have to bare with hitting F12 all the time and having a bunch of pointless recorded files?

Pro-Tools LE 6.9 002 Rack (I don't have a mixer)

Thanks!

God bless <><

Buss your drums to an Aux track.

Control-K

That should do it. Turn off RECORD too that will do it. Kinda confused into what you are trying to do though? Just need more snare, turn up the snare track.

BTW: I usually send all drums to a buss minus the kick. Like to add different things to that and do not like the effect the buss has on it.

Default Re: I\'m New to \"Bussing\"

Well here is why I am bussing.

1. I only have 32 mono tracks (I think).
2. My computer can't handle plugins on every track.

So I bus harmonies to 1 track then put reverb on that track. Rather than 20 tracks all with reverb on them.

The AUX input helps in mixing, but doesnt free up tracks. Ctrl K Didnt seem to help either here is what it looks like...We will say Lead Vocals for now.

Track 1 MONO: Lead Vocals 1 < 0 > NO INPUT OUTPUT: BUS 1
Track 2 MONO: Lead Vocals 2 < 0 > NO INPUT OUTPUT: BUS 1
Track 3 MONO: Lead Vocal Mix < 0 > Input: Bus 1 Output: Analog 1-2

On Track 3 the only way I can hear the vocals are if I arm "record." Also, I have to press record, then it will start burning down the audio. I was wondering if there is a way to hear it without recording it.

After I burn down the audio of the vocals (track 1 and 2) I will set the DYN to off and take off the plugins from that track (autotune, EQ, Compression). So I would free up room for 1 more track and wouldn't have the heavy strain from the plugins.

Any better way would be greatly appreciated Thanks!!!

God bless <><

DOC you are a genious!!!!
it wasn't CNTRL + K but ALT + K WORKED...THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!

1 last question:

is there anything I should know about that setting?

If i start recording and INPUT ONLY MONITOR is selected, will it mess up the recording or sound funny at all? What's the difference between auto input and input only monitoring THANKS AGAIN!!!!

God bless <><

Ok. Now I understand what you are doing. Check out my Track Freeze workaround post.

That should do it for ya.

thanks for the tip

I don't use the aux track because:

The tracks that you send to the AUX track have to still be active along with the AUX track throughout the mix...With the bussing technique, after I bus over the tracks...I will select DYN to OFF...this will free up extra tracks.
