Default Recovering a Track that was Command + .

I recorded an total stream of consciousnesses tune just now that I was really enjoying. When I was done I realized at I hadn't hit the rec button on the vocal track. I never thought I'd be able to duplicated it, but the second take was possibly better, until I did the unthinkable move n hit Command + . instead of the spacebar.. bahhhHHH!! I went into the Audio File folder just to see if they got recorded, even though I knew in my heart they were gone forever. Is there any way that I can recover the bass and vocals from that cmd+. blunder. I'm pretty sure I'm f'd in the a, but i figured that I'd give it a go an ask you all on here.

thanks.

Do you have autosave on and if so did you look in said folder?

Fyi: in future, track with QuickPunch mode on in transport
You can punch in at the end b4 stop. Trim the punch back to find your recording!
So long as record was enabled on track(s)

Always record every rehearsal and soundcheck your artist is behind the mic, always. Did I already say always? Tracks can be cleaned later and gigabytes are dirt cheap today. Always record everything.

There is no recovery.
Learn never to use command + .
With hard drive space so cheap there’s no reason to use the hard undo when you can always delete afterwards (which is recoverable) or just re-record over (also recoverable)

Command +. Why! I’ve been using Pro Tools for over 20 years and have never used that shortcut. I never even knew it existed and now I know why. Quick Punch if you missed a take is great, but only if the transport is moving prior to punching in record. Space bar to stop. It’s huge and right in front of you. Sorry for your loss.

Have you tried a data recovery software on the record drive? Hopefully you haven't written anything else to the drive since.

It was a total reflex move; I didn't even realize what the hell i was doing til I did it. I know some people say if you can't remember it then it ain't a keeper, but it's not that black n white, atleast with me.

I tried to play it a third time last night, but i was so devastated that playing the riff made me physically ill. I'll give it another go today; hopefully the melody/lyrics come back.

Thanks for the help.
