switching between 48 and 44.1
I´m running PT12.8.1 HD native on two macs with sierra pretty successful for quite a while now (12.7.1 was a bit buggier before..) but I still have one thing happening all the time since I upgraded to PT12
I get the weel of death and protools suddenly quitting at startup of the session when I change between 44.1 and 48khz sessions.. is anyone else having this problem? its not a big thing I just wonder if there´s a way to avoid it thx for your help |

Re: switching between 48 and 44.1
Two answers the first of which is flip - work at one sample rate. I'm guessing the reason for the 48k rate is it's for video. Why not just do all your work at that rate?
The second more serious answer would be to restart PT when you want to work on a session that has the other sample rate from which you're currently working in. Say you're working in a 44.1k rate and you want to go to a 48k session - quit PT and restart and after PT has finished starting select the session with the 48k rate. This requires remembering what session uses what sample rate. |

Re: switching between 48 and 44.1
Problems with sample rate are usually related to the interface. Make sure your driver is up to date. Another possibility, if it's a firewire interface, it could be your computer's firewire card or its driver.

Re: switching between 48 and 44.1
I also have Pro Tools HD Native, and don't have any problem switching sample rates. What interface are you using? An Omni? I think that you may need to reinstall the drivers.
Switching the sample rate should not cause a crash. It certainly doesn't here. Mac Pro. Sierra 10.12.6, PT 12.8.1, HD Native Thunderbolt, Omni and a 192. Steve

Re: switching between 48 and 44.1
Sorry, I overlooked that it was HD Native. Thunderbolt or PCI? Any other clocking devices in the system? It could be a conflict between PT and Core Audio trying simultaneously to set two different rates.
By the way, it can save time to put your specs in your signature.

Or at least in one's profile with a note in the signature where the system specs are. Helps keep down on the long sig files that show up here from time to time.

Re: switching between 48 and 44.1
I'm Thunderbolt, too, so I doubt it's that. Call Apogee and speak with them on the phone. They are available and can be very helpful.
