Default Pink Noise Generator Sucks

The pink noise generator in the Signal Generator plug-in is next to useless for accurate calibration of the system. White noise is equal energy per frequency, making very hissy and bright. Pink noise is equal energy per octave which sounds more naturally flat to the ear. I have a pink noise analyser (Ivie IE-30) and hooking it directly to the 888 output gives at loss of about 6dB per octave from 20-20k hz instead of flat. Has anyone else noticed this and is there a fix? My persoanl noise generator show up fine through the system but it would be nice to be abvle to use the built in signal generator and save a step or two when calibrating the system.

We have already released an improved pink noise generator in PT 5.3 (for HD systems). Subsequent relases for Mix should pick up this change.

For Mix systems, there's Spectra Foo which has a really nice and accurate pink noise generator.

Hope this helps,

Foo Pink is very good. I also use it to create lots of other high quality test signals.

BTW, pink noise is designed for the world of 3rd octave EQ's, sorting power by octave so it is easy to adjust with an octave or better EQ. I don't think natural sound has much to do with it (I could be wrong).

I use white noise with a parametric and a good Earthworks measurement mic for cal.
