I think they should refund my balance from this year though as I was paid up for updates through April 2020
At this point, it wouldn't surprise me at all for them to do something greasy-sleezy like programatically writing incompatibility directly into their product that is triggered by certain OS update. Trying to force old version holdouts to either cough up the bucks or leave the PT platform.

I see "OR, for reinstatement purchases made through your Avid Reseller" with a box to put the reinstatement code. Sweetwater sells it.

But if they're really doing away with reinstatement late next month, they're screwing the people who didn't buy renewals during their 2-week 100%-price-increase pressure campaign precisely because we figured we could go a couple years without it. I would've respected them more if they just did away with reinstatement from the get-go. Instead, they dangled it for a week, brought it back after much clamoring from the people, and now yank it a few months later?? Big fat FU to Avid if this is true.

PT has always had very rigid OS requirements. That's not new. It's not so unusual, and sometimes necessary, on the Mac platform because there is less emphasis on backward compatibility. But it is beyond annoying on the PC.

OK, this is what I originally thought. The subscription is going up to $199 per year.

AVID is certainly not too concerned about their Pro Tools customers.

Been using Pro Tools since V2, and I'm now on Ultimate 2019.6
I will renew this weekend.
Then I'm actually considering selling my Perpetual license during 2020.
If I do, I'll probably turn to Reaper.

This is due to AVID's policy, I am honestly starting to get tired.

Since they bought Pro Tools from Digidesign there have been too much conflicts.
And as a customer you never know what they would do next.
I'm starting to feel anxious about the whole situation.

I want to 'work' with a company that put the interest of their customers in front.
I believe that should be first priority for every one in this business.

And some are really living by it.
My experience over the years is that AVID is not.

Sad ...

Isn't a yearly rental/"subscription" $299?

Seeing as Avid bought Digidesign/Pro Tools in 1994 (they bought the whole company not the software) and Pro Tools II came out in 1993, you didn't even get 1 good year!

The vast majority have never used Pro Tools under anything but Avid's ownership. They just were not aware until Avid started putting its label on it.

Yes but parts of the original code are still in use yet everything new Avid do seems to make the whole thing worse

On my renewal page, crossgrade to subscription is $99 for two years. Perpetual renewal is $199 (my original post).

Online it looks like the yearly sub is now $299, but no listing of Perpetual support plan, which they appear to be trying to eliminate completely.
