Default PTLE 8.0.4 + Win 7 + "Write protection!!!!!"

After upgrading from mbox1 + PTLE 6.9 + Win XP Pro to mbox2 mini + PTLE 8.0.4 and Win 7 I am getting the following error message when trying to import audio from a CF card, " Write protected CF card, cannot write TO CF card."
I can't find a way to unprotect the CF card, it's not checked as "read only" in the properties box.
I'm not trying to write TO the card, I'm trying to import audio FROM the card.
Three lectures behind now..Is it me or is it Mr. Gates?
Or, heaven forbid, PTLE 8.0.4?
All help desperately appreciated.
Thanks
