Default Control Surfaces

This is a 2 part question. First, can PTLE be taught to use any control surface if I start with the closest map (called personality? I think?)? I have and old digi R1 fader box that I used with the Session 8 PC system that I would like to use if only for the faders and the transport controls. Secondly, has anyone tried the Baby HUI? Is it shipping? Does it really work with PTLE PC? Thanks.

1.Some controllers don't work that well with PT according to what I've read in Electronic Musician. What you are personally able to do with it may depend on your programming and code writing chops...

2. Baby HUI is set for delivery in September and will work with both flavors of PT, according to the Mackie 'site, with an MSRP of $799, or as we like to call it, "More like it".
See it HERE...

OK, the Baby will be out, but I will never buy a controller that have 60mm faders.

Then you can spring for the Mackie HUI, which has 100 mm faders, or the CM Labs Motormix, or get a new Digi 002 when it ships (hopefully next month).

Can you use a midi control surface and a synth with midi hooked up simultaneously with 001?

Yes, but you'll need an extra MIDI interface for that. I use a MOTU MicroExpress and a Tascam US-428 for extra MIDI I/O over and beyond the single MIDI in/out on the Digi 001, and PT addresses / accesses them just fine. The US-428 also works as a fader / transport controller, and has the functionality of a JL Cooper CS-10, but the downside to the Tascam US-428 is that the faders are not motorized.
