Default A UPS Suggestion Please.

Hi I need to get a UPS for set up.

My computer runs 6 hardrives dual monitors. Also would include my 003.

I now the UPS is really only there to help you get your sessions saved and computers shutdown proper.

So can you give me some suggestions of UPS's you have worked with successfully?

Thanks

Philip

I would suggest anything from the APC Smart-UPS line. It's line interactive, does filtering and surge protection, compensates for over/under voltage, regenerates a true sine wave, and is highly reliable.

Thank you Sir. How many watts for my set up would you think?

If you can, tally up the rated VA of each of these pieces of gear and multiply that number by 70% to get the peak wattage you would need to cover.

APC is my choice as well. Using an XS-1000 here(had the older 900 model as well). If I had it to do over, I would go up to the 1200 or 1500 models to get a little more run time. My entire control room is on it, except for the speakers and keyboards. Check Staples and Best Buy for sale pricing, but plan on at least $130

BTW, expect the batteries to need replacement once a year or so(yet another tax write-off).

Not for the insurance you are getting(and they will go a bit longer usually). The first time that box saves your session, it will be the best money you ever spent. I had the entire building go out in the middle of a bounce. I calmly let it finish, saved and closed out with no muss. no fuss. Without the UPS, it would have most likely corrupted the session and cost me the client! Plus, now that I am in a commercial building, its not uncommon for some fool to go flipping breakers in the stairwell when their toaster-oven killed their office lights. Click....click....click...WTF????

I see 2-3 years. You always want to be on top of the battery condition and change it before it swells too big to get out of the chassis. Otherwise, you'll have to cut the frame around the battery to get it out.

doing a regular load test is also a good idea
