Angry Mbox Pro not recognized by computer

I bought a used Mbox 3 Pro today.
Looks like I bought a brick.

I've spent the last six hour googling, reinstalling, tried all the driver versions, on different OS versions.

It powers up, I get sound thru inputs 3 and 4, meter work, volume knob works.
But control panels says not connected/no_set, not streaming. It never shows up in sound control panel or PT setup menu.

When installing driver, whatever version, nothing happens after restart and connecting the unit.

There is little doubt that the box is stuck in this "firmware update mode" that people are talking about. It's all over the forum.

But few posts on this the latest year. Might it be that there is now a way to reset or "flash" the firmware on these things?

Bugger.

This looks like how far Avid has taken this, and it says in essense, "Run uninstaller, uninstall manually (in case uninstaller forgot something), reinstall. And if it doesn't work, call us." Dated february 3 2014.
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...s-the-firmware

Quote:
On Mac OSX, if the Mbox Control Panel is opened from System Preferences and the firmware shows "NOT_SET", you will need to perform the following:
  1. Uninstall Driver
  2. Trash the following files:
  • /Library/PreferencePanes/AvidMBox.prefPane (Depending on the MBox you have, this may be listed as "AvidMbox.prefPane, AvidMBoxMini.prefpane, or AvidMBox Pro.prefpane)
  • /Library/LaunchAgents/com.avid.mbox.helper.plist (Depending on the MBox you have, this may be listed as com.avid.mbox.helper.plist, com.avid.mboxpro.helper.plist, or com.avid.mboxmini.helper.plist)
  • /Library/Startupitems/anything Digidesign
3. Open Disk Utility, select the disk the operating system is installed on then repair disk permissions
4. Reinstall Driver with MBox not connected.
5. Restart the computer and connect the MBox.

If this does not correct the issue, please call Avid Technical Support to set up a repair @ 650-731-6100.
Like I said, I did this with several versions and clean installs, and mbox is never seen by the mac. The last part where you connect after restart, nothing happens.

But why has the discussion of ths problem died down? Has everyone got their units fixed by Avid? I wish I could just "zap" that firmware myself.

Can you confirm you have the correct power supply for the Mbox Pro?

Also, is the Power LED lit solid or is it flashing?

Thanks for getting back to me.
I completely forgot to check that.
You know what? It says:
Input: AC 100V 50/60Hz 90-100VA
Output: DC 9V 4.0A
Golden Profit Electronics LTD

I'm in Norway, Europe.
And we have 220 volts in our juice.

I've uplugged it.
Have I been frying my new mbox?
Or is it just underpowered?

It won't be "underpowered".

In order of rough probability: it may not work at all and the brick protected it self from overvoltage, it may damage the power brick, or blow a fuse/fusible link in the power brick if it has one. Or worse case damage the MBox or blow a fuse in it if it has one. Measure the brick voltage output on your 220VAC wrong voltage will give you a good idea if it was damaged or not, but you probably don't care about it and just go get a proper spec power supply, or a 220VAC to 110VAc step down transformer, and try it and if the MBox works on that.

Well, I got just the mbox and the powersupply, nothing else. The guy told me he had bought it used himself, but never got it to work. Now I know why. He said it was because of his PCIe firewire card, and that the unit was fine. If it's broken i think he and I can talk, he seems a good guy.

I'll get the proper transformer tomorrow, but I guess I have screwed up.

Sorry for off-railing this thread.

The PSU I'm using with mine also states that (at the bottom), but above it reads...

Switching Mode Power Supply
Model: GPE602-090400W
Input: 100-240V-50/60Hz 1.5A
Output: 9V---4000mA 36VA

Can you double check yours?

Yes. exactly the same here.
So I have the same PSU as you.
But do you have 220v input? (I don't have the terminology)
Isn't it 110 in the states?

It means it will accept either 110 (which really measures 120vac) or 220 (which really measures 230vac iirc)

Then it seems to me like it says two different spesifications. On the top it says Input: 100-240v, the bottom 100. The rest of specs the same.

But if Jeffro's and mine are the same... I don't know...
I'm tired.

Thanks for helping.
