Default Will adding "Sync" make HD sound better?

Will adding the SYNC box to a HD system improve the audio quality of the system (when running192 i/o's)?

I know that with the old mix system, using the USD supposedly improved audio quality. So what is the deal with HD?

Thanks.....

I would think not... Unless the Master clock Generator is much more stable than 192i/o...

A master clock WILL improve sound quality if you HAD several interfaces and daisy-chained the WC ins and outs to each respective interface(this case would cause them to drift apart in time)-- Distributing the Master clock equally to all interfaces would improve the sound quality...

However if you're running several 192's, the "loop sync" technology (as I've been told by digi) "re-sync's" any drift to provide stable clock reference for each interface equally.

If you're running just ONE 192k interface, using the internal clock would be more than efficient, and unless the clock of the "sync box" was superior to that of the 192k(after the PLL), sound quality would not be improved.

We have the whole setup clocked to a aardsync II . The 192 realy sounds good with sync put to internal. It used to make a much "bigger" difference with the 888's. Now it has become a matter of taste I guess. And the difference is more a feeling rather then a real difference. I get a better feeling with the aardsyncII. When we got the HD system we blind tested the clocks. Both me and my companion picked out the aarsync more as the best sounding then the 192. That's why we held on to it. But it was only like 6 or 7 out of ten that we picked it.

so Chris,

Are you doing what we're doing...?

We come out of one of the 1x outputs on our AardSync II into the Sync I/O, then set the Sync I/O's "Base Clock" to 256, so the Sync I/O is sending superclock to the interfaces.

Is that how you're doing it?

J

I come out of the Aardsync II 1X to the WC in on the 192 I/O and set the 192 to WC clock in. I can tell a big difference in the stereo image.

There's a new product called nanoclock. Is there anyone using it with protools HD or protools mix plus system ?

The aardsync is not a very accurate clock, likely because its a pretty old design by now.
This effects the audio tby causing some defined peaks in audio frequency.
Of the clocks tested (bench and audio) the most accurate one was the Lucid GEN6 for audio up to 96, and the Lucid SSG192 for anything above 96.
(tests included the Nano, aard and some others)

does anybody here have both the Sync Box AND an Ardsync II? Which sounds better? I have an Ardsync II now, and am upgrading to HD. Should I sell the Ardsync and get a Sync box?
