Default D-Comm. Fader unit issues

Hello all...
I'm installing two D-command systems for the first time. On both sets, the main unit works OK, but the Fader Module LEDs flash about once every second.
This happens during test modes, if either unit is offline or not, or while protools is running or not.
For ex. if the meter test mode is up, all meter LEDs flash in sync repeatedly about once a sec.
Again, the main unit acts as it should.

Also, please, what is the latest firmware version for the D-command?
Unit currently has v.7.4.0.309 installed.
Pro Tools wants to install v.7.3.0.132 Is this the most up to date version?
BTW, I did "update" firmware on one (main+fader unit) set, but not the other. Problem remains the same on both.

Thanks for any help in the matter.

Hello,

1st Q : What version of PT are you running ? The firmware ties in directly with the software version you want to run. if you say PT want to install fw version 7.3.x.x then I would guess you have 7.3 running.

Definitely bring all units up to par with the software version that you are running and make sure both main and fader packs are updated.

Are these new units ? ES ?

I would suggest contacting tech support :

go to the digidesign website > support > contact. If your country settings are correct that should give you the necessary info for how to do that in your region.

They will be able to dig in deeper through troubleshooting procedures.

Strange that this should happen to both fader packs and not to the main units. Are both units on the same network ? Troubleshooting is usually a process of eliminating all possible causes so if you're on one big network for your facility it may be best to isolate both systems from that network and hook everything up directly to the computer through an ethernet hub or switch and start from there.

Had the same problem on my Blue/Grey D-Command units, LED flashing about once a second. Mostly likely the LED power supply. There are 2 power supplies in each unit. One for main power and one for LEDs.

After calling tech support and going through the 'hoops'; reset units, update firmware, etc. etc. etc.

I've replaced the LED power supply in the Fader Expansion last year. And two years previously, I replaced the LED power supply in the Main Unit.

The power supply is around $300 (US).

Thank you for the replies,

Yes, I am running PT 7.3.1 cs8.

The units were purchased second hand. I don't know how old they are.
And they were never on a network. Both were tested separately through an ethernet hub. Tried different hubs, cables, etc.

I agree it's odd that BOTH units would do exactly the same thing, which gave me hope that it was just a firmware issue, or op. error or something; as opposed to a power supply problem. But at this point I'm beginning to fear the worst.

We'll see what magic Tech sup. has to offer!

I just purchased an older D-command 24 fader and it did the same thing you mentioned when testing it. The seller said it was only a firmware update problem. I feared the worse from what I have read and talking with people that it was a bad LED psu problem but indeed when I updated the firmware in PT8cs2, it sprung to action and works perfectly now. Hopefully you have similar luck with updating firmware.
