i am so confused!!
hello
i recently bought a firewire 1814 and academic mpowered 7.3, however i found out that i my laptop is not compatible with protools! now im goning to buy a mac. i have my eye on the mac mini on the apple site as my college lecture uses one with protools and he has no probs with his setup. however he has a mac mini G4 1.4 GHz with 1 Gig RAM, and the one i wnat has 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo. my laptop had a dual core also and i think that was the problem with it not working. is protools on the mac compatible with Intel Core Duo. would i be better off buying a Mac Book? could someone please pint me in the right direction? thanks! |

Re: i am so confused!!
I've got a Mac MINI 1.8GHz Duo Core and have installed M-Powered Academic on it without issue. I don't use it for that... I use the MINI as a music server... but it does work. Make sure you get an external drive to record to. I'd recommend something like THIS.

Re: i am so confused!!
I can't hang with too much jargon, but I can tell you I have a MacBook, OS 10.4.9, Mbox2 mini and Pro Tools LE 7.3.1 that works great!

Re: i am so confused!!
If you go to the main page for these forums you'll find an area detailing computer compatibility for ProTools. This should help you with your decision.
PT M-Powered will certainly run on a Mini and/or MacBook Pro. My biggest issue with the Mini is having to drag around a monitor and keyboard for location work. If you need to be mobile, get the MacBook Pro.

Re: i am so confused!!
I've been using ProTools M-Powered with a Macbook since July of last year, and it works great. Just remember to download the latest drivers, etc..
