Default Please Help! fader issues

they were working fine yesterday, and today, they do not record volume automation. they play back volume automation. (only using a mouse and the mixer in protools we can automate volume). they feel sticky when you try to move them in any direction. when you automate the software faders with the mouse, the procontrol fader follows your moves! twice, the faders came back on and allowed me to automate with them, but just as suddenly they stopped working again.

we reset the firmware to no avail. it did not make a difference in this problem. we did the software fader resets and recalibrations in the utility menu on the procontrol, and they seemed to function (the faders moved okay), but didn't repair the problem. we did a reset to factory defaults on the procontrol, too, and this didn't help.

it is intermittently very cold in the room - could this be a factor?

please advise asap if you have any information.

thanks much!

by the way, we are a post production mix studio, with:
--hd accel upgrade
--a dual 1.25 ghz power pc G4 with mac os 10.3.4
--protools version 6.4 with a 192 and sync i/o.
--we are playing a dv movie out the firewire port.

stupid Q probably, but you haven't by any change accidently disabled volume in the automation enable window. You can also 'accidently' do this on the left side of the main unit. I know stuff like this happens from time to time to me by accident. Can drive you crazy too ....

Is your system properly grounded? The Pro Control's "touch circuitry" needs to be grounded to work properly.

When you say "reset firmware", I wonder why. Fader failures are recoverable by using the Utility test "Fader recal" function.

Finally, the sad news is that there has been an issue with Pro Control faders actually dying out which need replacement. If recalibrating them doesn't help, you may need to contact Tech Support for replacements.

good luck!
