Default What firewire drives work with 5.1?

I've reviewed most of the threads on the subject. I can't get my 60 gig LaCie drives to work with 5.1. Worked with 5.0 Can anyone tell me which models are working with 5.1 and the drivers used. Seems some people with the 911/oxford chipset are still having problems. A need to purchase another drive and I already have 180 gigs out of 350 that won't work due to this issue.
Thanks
Tim

The OWC one works fine http://eshop.macsales.com or try the Granite Digital one http://www.scsipro.com.

Also the one from Digital Audio Miracles at http://digitalaudiomiracles.com looks good. They also make the Fast Firewire Driver. I have not used DAM drives though.

I've been lucky with firewire so far. Even stream a Quicktime movie off of it with audio. Do you think it is something else. Then again I try to keep my sessions lean as possible. I am using a two year old G4 450. Good luck.

Hope this helps.
Dennis

This is the one that I have been looking seriously at.

If it is what they say....well, could be pretty cool.

I am using PT 24 v. 5.1.1 on a G4/466 with OS 9.2 and have been using the 80 GB "fast" 7200 rpm La Cie drives with no problems. I reformatted them with Apples drivers before using them. Do you have the latest firewire extensions from Apple? I think they are up to 2.8. When you say that you can't get them to work - do you mean that you can't get them to mount or that you are not getting good performance out of them. Maybe I have been lucky but I have also been using a 40GB IBM Deskstar with a Pyro External Firewire case without incident. I haven't really done torture tests with this setup yet (really high edit density, etc...) but I can record 32 tracks simultaneously without delays and I haven't had any problems with playback either. The firewire drives seem to work as well internal IDE. I have read other posts which seem to indicate that having an ATTO SCSI card in your system may interfere with using firewire. By no means am I an expert on the subject, but firewire does seem to be a workable solution for many.

Drew-
I've been getting the "can't find drive" crap....you know when it won't recognize the session on the firewire stuff.

center stage, make sure you have th latest FW drivers from Apple AND make sure you have no other Firewire drivers loaded at the same time. Initialize your drives using the Apple drive setup utilities and that should do the trick.

I read a lot of talk on this forum about using firewire hard drives with oxford chip sets for PT. I tend to think that this oxford chip set thing is a lot of hype. I have been successfully using Maxtor and BUSlink firewire hard drives with PT Mix TDM on a Mac G4 466 running OS 9.1 for almost a year, and they seem to work as well as my SCSI drives.

Couldn't get a Maxtor 60gb 3000DV happy. Got the DAM drivers and blew off Maxtor utilities. Brilliant. The hairiest max voice/edit sessions play no problem. Haven't recorded yet or checked video playback. If this keeps up, there'll be some Glyph cheetah hot-swaps in my storage unit soon.
