Default mbox2 pro and firewire expresscard

Hey All

I have a problem getting protools 8.04 to load on my toshiba tecra a11 00m005.
I've been uning windows XP and even tried Win764. I've done several clean installs. I'm connecting the mbox using a expresscard from skymaster (I think its a cheapo generic card). I've followed the guides to the T and even replaced the card (with same brand unfortunatly)
I keep getting the PC freeze at random points during the load and once or twice I'd get the audio canvas up but then soon after a freeze.
I've used the troubleshooting tools and the win7 guide.
I'm wondering will protools run from the expresscard as the toshiba has no internal firewire? do I need a siig?

any help would be greatly appreciated

james

Default Re: mbox2 pro and firewire expresscard

Hey James,

I have a Toshiba p100 which fortunately DOES have inbult firewire (4 pin).

I don't have experience with an express card yet but i HAVE farted around with a Belkin PCMIA card which i thought would fix my problem - because I initially couldn't get my internal firewire card to work.

The belkin adaptor wouldn't work. The DAE error indicated that it might have been insufficient bus power but plugging in an adaptor to the belkin card caused smoking and the distinct smell of electrical burning (yes polarity and voltage were correct). Using the Mbox's power adaptor didn't help either.

And although i since have got the internal card working, I had a Siig card already on the way from Amazon.com. That was my last ditch effort at getting my laptop firewire working. I'm going to play with that and see if i get better results using that.

I know my response doesn't help you directly but my experience tells me that i shouldn't have mucked around with any solutions other than the recommended one.

Hope you get up and running soon
Paul
