Default RE: Slow recording when starting a new session

I am having trouble with delayed start when recording. When I arm and start record on the transport, the software takes 20 to 30 seconds to start recording. This only happens when I start a new session. After the initial problem, any additional starts to record transport work fine. I have tried every combination of buffer playback size and DAE . Anyway I have a 1.4 Ghz Pentium 4 Sony Vaio with 512 RAM. I do have dual monitors and an external Firewire hard drive.

Any suggestions?

if it is the DAE buffer, try setting it about half way at 512 samples and see what it comes up with. Most of the time with systems its a matter of finding the perfect setting so to speak.

If the session has alot of automation and MIDI PT has been known to have a slow start (Answerbase). When you say new session do you mean empty session or just a different song you are working on?

This is every time I start a new session. I am a VO actor and keep sessions for different commercials.

nelsonmay ,
In that case, I'd look at how full the audio drive is. Try recording to a different, possibly a second internal (non-boot) drive.
The biggest difference however could be had by lowering the record allocation time from infinite (..use all available space )to 10 minutes or so, or just slightly over the required time.

good luck,

good luck,

lemix,

Just curious where you acquired this info regarding the "infinite" versus "required time". I do not recall reading this anywhere and would like to know more.

cheers,

dave

Lemix is correct.
It's called "open ended record allocation".
