i want to get a really good book on PRO TOOLS ..one that is very insightful and more advanced that those pro tools guides you sometimes see...one that has more to offer than just explaining how to use a compressor or splicing audio (for example)....

I'm new to PTLe, so I picked up Steven Roback's "ProTools 6 for Macintosh & Windows" Visual Quickstart Guide. I find it very informative, and helpful. It only covers version 6.1 though.

Hope this helps...

I would like a PT book as well. But I don't a beginner's book or intro to PT book. I would like an advanced techniques book.

Depends on how you look at it. It's easier to digest then the material that comes with PT, but it's by no means an "advanced users" manual. It has a number of screen shots to help those of us who are more visually oriented. There are practical "tips" in many sections. After getting through the book, I'd still be looking for a more advance book, or sitdown time with an experienced user.

I'm not new to ProTools but picked up this book as well and I find it fantastic. It covers a lot of ground and I learned a lot of cool little tricks that would otherwise have passed me by.

Steve Roback's book is awesome. I use it as a textbook for one of my classes and it's excellent. It is a little on the "beginner getting started side", but it also has some useful information for experienced guys too. Another excellent book is Chilitos Valenzuela's "The complete Pro Tools Handbook". It's more expensive, but definitely full of great stuff. If you really want to learn some advanced stuff, you should find a guy who already knows and hire him for a few days to teach you. You might also look for a Pro School in your area and get in touch with them. Good luck.

My $.02. I have 4 or 5 books. Probably the ones mentioned here. None of them are perfect. They all contain nuggets of info and they all lack something. SO the unfortunate truth is you will buy one or two and make do.
GOod Luck!

The best books i have come across, is the actual training books that AVID uses for their certifications. I have one and have seen none better, given that they are close to 100 bucks.
