Question About Two Drives vs. Three (System, Audio, Samples).
Simple Question: Do I Absolutely Need Three Drives To Succesfully Run PT Sessions that USE AUDIO SAMPLES in Programs like KONTAKT from NI?
Background: Here trying to build a system (laptop) I can use at work on my lunch and administrative breaks to catch up on projects and do some recording. I have an SSD Express Card by MTron (16GB Though) for my laptop that claims to do 100 MB/s. It seems as it does. I've played back sessions with up to 32 tracks w/o a hiccup. At home, I use Kontakt for samples, along with Hybrid and Pro-53 VIs for synth sounds. My home system uses 3 drives (System, Audio, Samples) without real issue (Asus P5K). Will my laptop suffer because I'm only using two drives? (System/Audio). Would I better off placing the samples on the audio drive? (since it reads/writes 100MB/s), or would I be best off investing in an eSATA Express Card w/two ports to hook up two eSata drives? (which may in fact be much slower than the 100MB/s of the MTron SSD). I know it is a lot of information, but thank you for answering if you can.
