Default Can't commit tracks due to track count

Just finished a rather large mix and I thought it'd be a great idea to commit every single channel to audio for archiving and stem creation but when I highlight the tracks it tells me I can't commit them as it would exceed the track limit.

Totally understand that would be an issue but surely selecting the "delete" the tracks after committing should override this?

I'm now a bit stuck and unable to do commit things, is there any way around this?

All I can think of is bouncing out everything as stereo tracks (to maintain panning and sends) but then I won't be able to put them back into a session as the mono tracks will become stereo and again exceed the limit of tracks

Have you tried making some inactive? Not sure if that will work but just wondering.

Gave that a go but I think it's the overall track count that gets me. I'm having to do it 8 tracks at a time or so and then I occasionally run into a bug where it tells me I've run out of tracks, so I re-open the session and it's fine again.

Workaround would be save to a new version of the session (add "rev1" or whatever to the end of the filename), then commit as many as it will let you with "delete" selected. Then do that many more. Repeat until done.

I was thinking along the same lines as daeron80.
My thought was to create a new session and import session data in batches, commit, delete, import next batch, etc

I'm managing to get through everything by committing 8 tracks at a time but what's killing me is there seems to be a bug whereby I commit say 16 tracks and then it tells me I can't do the next batch of 8 as it's run out of tracks.

I restart the session and it works fine.

It seems Pro Tools commits the track, deletes the original but doesn't clear the allocation for it. So I'm constantly opening and closing the session to get it done.

I haven't tested it but I think it would be the same issue starting a new session, importing and committing. I'd have to constantly open and close it.

It'd just save me so much work if I could highlight everything and press "commit" "delete" and then I can archive a session that's entirely futureproof

It's annoying in 2018 to see a professional DAW limitated in terms of number of tracks ...
Only the system should be a limit.

Got a case open about it now and sent a video of the issue to Avid support so hopefully it'll get a fix.

Ideally they'll change the way it works so you can commit an entire session of 128 mono tracks as long as you select delete. I don't have a real use for Pro Tools HD as I do mainly mixing and it works just fine with my setup. Parting with £1500ish for an upgrade to commit tracks is a bit of an ask

Seems like you're making very hard work of it to me.

Cant you just save a session with the first 64 tracks, another session with the second 64 tracks, then commit in 2 batches? Then import the 2nd committed session tracks into the first session?

I know you've encountered a bug, and yes it needs fixing, but working around bugs is probably what we spend half our lives doing.
