That info is not correct...it applies only to non-HD licenses.

Avid has not yet released the HD information...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

Well, it's at least half correct, according to current info from AVID. The other half is a definite "maybe".

From the infamous FAQ, specifically about PT-HD:

Q. I have Pro Tools | HD 11, but am not yet on an upgrade and support plan. Why should I upgrade to Pro Tools 12?
A. Pro Tools 12 sets the stage for Avid Cloud Collaboration and Avid Marketplace, enabling you to collaborate with others and get recognition and payment for your work. This upgrade also includes an annual upgrade and support plan, so you'll also receive all future updates, upgrades, and priority support for one full year, renewable annually. You have until December 31, 2015 to get on a plan to upgrade your perpetual license and stay current for the next 12 months; otherwise, you will no longer be able to upgrade your software.

Yeah well it would be "odd" if HD users would be treated the same as Vanilla PT license owners. It would make sense if you could freely (ie without the need to purchase any additional hardware) buy the HD version/license, but that is currently not possible.

So currently if you are a Vanilla user and you do not buy the support plan, you can - say in 3 years time - repurchase PT2018 as a new software. That's fine.

But if you are a Native or HDX user and have PT11HD now, it is not fair that you should buy another Native or HDX system in order to get PT2018HD. Avid should allow the current 11HD users (and they do have them listed in their database) to be able to continue with the support plan even if they lack the 2015/2016 one. Fine the price could be 1198$ instead of the current 599$ per license, but the option should be made available. Period. Ave & good tracking/mixing/mastering!
