Default iMac Retina - Firewire Adapter?

I've read enough to be confused about this..... I'm considering getting an MBox 3 Pro but I'm assuming I'll also need to get a 400 to 800 adapter.. I keep reading that this can also hurt he quality somewhat if I don't get just the right adapter?

In the dark here.... any suggestions appreciated!
