I just started to notice the loud hiss in some of the DFH samples, particularly all the toms.
The hiss is just as loud as the sound. I noticed it also on some of the snares.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Ways around it?

The hiss is on the actual individual .wav files themselves. I'd post one, but apparantly you can't do that directly on this forum.

I've noticed that too, but I think it's even more apparent on the ride samples.
I listened just now, and it is only on the close miced sounds that the noise is audible.

I'm looking for tight, in your face drum tracks. I'm afraid that I can't go further until I fix the hiss issue. If I ignore, then compress, that will get compressed as well.

I've thought of hiss reduction techniques, and I'm not opposed to going to every velocity of every sample and removing the hiss. I've got waves gold (no hiss reduction that I know of). I've also got CoolEditPro, but the hiss reduction it has really changes the tone. hmmm.

I have a feeling someone will mention Waves Restoration, but for $1200, I don't think so...

I think the point I'm trying to make is, I shouldn't have to fix this.

Everybody talks about how great DFH is. It's got a killer review from Sound on Sound, and such. But I wonder why this hiss issue is not mentioned anywhere. I mean, it's real noticeable.

I can't see spending another half grand to fix this. I appreciate the heads up that it's not $1200 though, kmshroom.

Does anyone else see this as a big obstacle. If so, what have you done to compensate?

Interesting dilemma, wanna give us some more details on how you are using the samples? I haven't used DFH before but would find it hard to believe that a company would release a product with noisy samples.

Are you doing any pre-post processing? Are you running them from a soft-sampler or as raw audio? Have you had a more forensic look at the samples as audio? Are you mistaking room ambience for hiss??

Cheers,
Marcus

Hi!

Drop a note in the "DFH Support Q's" section.

They have seemed very helpful to their customers thus far.
