Optimazation of ProTools 12.7.0
I'm in the middle of doing a new system Optimization and have a question on the part on Hyper Threading or Turbo Boost.
In my new Dell 8930 bios there is no line for Turbo Boost of Hyper Treading but there is a setting for Intel Speedstep (enable, Disable) is that what use to be Hyper Threading or Turboboost. Anyone here with a new Dell XPS 8930 I7 8086 cpu (or the 8700) that can confirm if this is what I need to disable for the "Turboboost".. .I talked with Dell today... they have no idea Thanks in advance for the help. If there is other things in these new system bios I need to address I'd appreciate that info as well. Thanks Dave |

Should have what you need. Hyperthreading is not in this list but there is a forum thread with the how to-google "turning off hyperthreading duc.avid"

Re: Optimazation of ProTools 12.7.0
64GTboy, Thank you for your response, the link you sent to me is the same set of instructions that I have been using, On that set of instructions there is no mention of "SpeedStart" by Intel, I do understand Hyper-threading and I do understand TurboBoost, Neither of those options are in the New DELL XPS 8930 bios choices. In the top of the List in the Bios there is a line "SpeedStart" which is enabled with a choice of disabling it. I am thinking that may be what they refer to as Turbo Boost but, before I go and change it I posted my question to see if anyone has run across the same issue. It looks like Intel has been using that terminology for a few years.
So, Again, Is there anyone who has one of the newer Dell systems that show this feature in the Bios and did you disable it? Dave |

Re: Optimazation of ProTools 12.7.0
Do you mean Intel Rapid Start?
Rapid Start technology helps a computer sleep/resume faster and would really have no affect on Pro Tools. So, you can leave that enabled. |

Re: Optimazation of ProTools 12.7.0
Nope, it isn't rapid start, I"ve uploaded a screen shot of my Bios on the Advanced Page, as you can see it is Intel SpeedStep I"ve disabled it for now as it is the only thing I've been able to see when I google it.. but from 2010 there is a mention of it in an avid document but not much about it. When I Disabled it the performance of the system took a 12% hit according to Passmark Benchmark CPU Mark... but in ProTools the system performance in a project I've been using as a test really didn't make any difference

Re: Optimazation of ProTools 12.7.0
I guess what I am really trying to figure out is how to maximize performance and minimize latency... Right now with a fairly full 20+ track project at 48K with quite a few plug ins I"m at a latency of 64 and really stable.. Folks talk about latency and of course zero is better but others I walk with it seems like the norm in a system similar to mine is 64 so perhaps I'm chasing something that I should not really worry about ..
