Default Shared storage solution for Pro Tools / OS X?

I need to get a shared media system that works in OS X with at least two G5's.

Anyone have any suggestions? What systems are you using?

Thanks!

I think you need to be a little more specific on your needs. Is this for backup? Do you want both machines to be able to access the files at the same time? Do you want to run ProTools sessions directly off of this storage unit?

A firewire drive is a shared media system if you move it from one machine to the other.

Fiber Channel,
We use Charismac FibreShare. You'll need a Fibre switch and a JBOD for the drives and a HBA card for the computer. It's a serverless system, so there is no server computer or admin system. SNS also has a Fibre system that they market to DAW users. Fibrechannel is a remote SCSI system, so it's fast. The downside is that altho any number of people can mount and read from a drive at once only one user at a time can mount a volume with write access. We haven't found that to be much of a problem. ProTools does not officially support fibre drives, or any other network storage system that I know of on OS X, but we have been using it for about 5 years now with only minimal problems, and no stability issues.

Not for backup.

Both machines should be able to access files and play ProTools sessions directly off the storage unit.

Thanks!

CLee,

Charismac FibreShare looks like just what I want.

Thanks!
