Recording + Monitoring synced external midi gear issues
Hi.
Im recording some external midi gear. the midi gear is synced and slaved to ProTools via Midi Time Code. Recording is working fine and the gear is in sync with ProTools. my issue is this. when i record some audio, i can monitor the incoming signal and record and it behaves exactly as i want. the recorded audio is nicely matched to my Grid. I then move the audio i just recorded to a new track and attempt to record another part / region.. i want to be able to hear what i.ve just recorded and monitor the input of the live signal from the external midi device.. when i then playback my arrangement Whilst monitoring the input of the same midi device thats synced in, the monitor input is offset slightly.. so the audio from PT is noticeably out of sync with the incoming signal and its difficult to monitor correctly.. If i record that signal though, when i place the recorded audio on a new track and play it back with the other recordings, its all synced perfectly.. my issue is just the monitor input being out. IS there somewhere in the App i can change a preference to tighten this up? Ive played around with my Global Midi Playback offset .. but this only seems to shift the entire problem, rather than the monitoring or recording separately. Thank you! |

Re: Recording + Monitoring synced external midi gear issues
Additionally, if i set the buffer size to 32 samples, this improves the issue quite a lot but its still a little off..

Re: Recording + Monitoring synced external midi gear issues
This is a known bug. I just deal with it(which means I try to ignore it while printing midi instruments)

Re: Recording + Monitoring synced external midi gear issues
I've gotten pretty good moving tracks on the PT timeline to compensate for this.

Re: Recording + Monitoring synced external midi gear issues
I never need to nudge, but my midi instruments are all in the box

Re: Recording + Monitoring synced external midi gear issues
Wish all mine were. I have a very nice Moog Voyager rack mount synth that begs to be used on basses and leads. The DSI PolyEvolver ain't too bad either. Then there's the odd time when I need a GM sound and that comes from my Yamaha Motif 7. So nudge has become my friend. It wouldn't be so bad but not every synth has the same MIDI response delay.
