Default The o'l CPU overload/increase H/W Buffer Size (error AAE-6101)

Hey Folks,

Yup this old chestnut........

Now this for me was a real issue in 2018.4 then seemed to be pretty well fixed in 2018.7 but has seemed to have reappeared in 2018.10 and 2018.12. Seems fairly random but I'm getting is several times a day now... opposed to 1-2 times per week under 2018.7

The only common denominator I can see is this mostly but not always happens when there are tracks with Input Monitoring and/or Record are enabled and when a session is armed for recording.

I run through a TF5 and it is limited to 48kHz sample rate... increasing the buffer as suggested doesn't seem to fix it. I currently run @ 512. The session photo attached doesn't have any plugins loaded.

A) Anyone with the same sys config or similar to mine having this issue?

B) Were you having a similar issue and the upgrade to Mojave magically fixed it?

I had these issues because I was using the same internal drive for sessions. Since I changed to external SSD usage for sessions it disappeared.

If not mistaken, it's related with the drives and not with cpu.

Hi Emi, thanks for your input

Ok that's one thing I haven't done or setup yet. Only because there was discussion about whether this was really needed considering how quick the new ssd's in MBP these days.

Yeah, I thought that too but it turns out Pro tools doesn't like to have the same drive for sessions. I even make the test with a 5400rpm spinner and see how well it was going, it was a no brainer.

I also have internal SSD for the system and I thought it would be enough...go figure.

The internal OS drive is a Crucial MX300
The external is a cheap Sannobel or something like that (but works surprisingly well)

Thats interesting as last sessions we did on the road was on my 2018 MBP 16GB 1TB flash drive and just a UAD-2 Satellite Octo attached.

The sessions were for two of the biggest DJ’s in the business and the songs were over 120 tracks, lots of native plugins and many automations, Melodyne, Vocal Synth 2, non freeze VI like Serum, Nexus2, Kontakt6, Avenger, NI KU12 libraries aswell as many Spire and Sylenth and filled UAD-2 OCTO !!

Have done the same with Avicii and that was on my old MBP Retina 2014 with absolutely no crashes or error stops so something is wrong if you get those -6101 popups. All recordings on the internal drive on both computers.

I have Mojave 10.14.2 on the MBP if that might play into this working so great.

Can you remember what sample rate you were using?
