Ah ha!

Close BOOM
Open Pro-tools
Create an instrument track
Goto the insert of that track and select Plug-in>Insrtument>BOOM as your instrument insert
Arm the track and record

like ace said, however i don't arm and record here. when boom opens up you'll see keyboard keys at the bottom of the plug in. find a beat you like by clicking those with a mouse or keying with your midi controller. once you've found a beat, draw with the pencil tool the corresponding note in the instrument track for how long you want it to last along the track. to change beats just pencil in a different note corresponding to the new beat.

once you've laid out the beat structure its easy to loop and jam to it (i assume you might be a guitarist because of your sig). later you can then also 'send' the midi performance using a bus to an audio track and record that as audio (not necessary if you don't need it as audio).

hope that helps a bit

ok, so let me get this right, you had boom playing back on an instrument track right? no problems hearing boom before you created and audio track. so then you decided you wanted to record that midi performance to an audio track so you used a bus to send that performance to an audio track. you hit record on the audio track and recorded the midi from the instrument track to the audio track successfully (you can see a waveform on the audio track). make sure your output on the audio track is in its default position (the way it loads up when you create a new track). i'm at work right now and i forget what that default setting is unfortunately... hope someone can chime in to give more specifics.

hmmm... so before you created the audio track you could hear boom on the instrument track fine when you hit play?

When you record, do you see the waveform being generated in the new Audio track? You might not be bussing this down properly.
