Mixing...
I was hoping some of you guys might have some feedback for me on this one. The sessions that I create are all sample based/midi. When I am creating my own original drum tracks but will fatten them up some afterwards with some loop samples. Everything I read says to use mono tracks because the mix will sound better when complete and for the most part I do. The loops however are stereo. When I am done with the mix it sounds good to me. Are there advantages to splitting the stero loop and using a mono version of it? What about panning then? I realize these are subjective questions/answers but was hoping to have any feedback that may help my mixing improve.
Thanks in advance... RRS MacBook Pro Snow Leopard 10.6.6 Pro Tools 8.0.5 MBox mini Maudio Midisport Anniversary Korg Karma Korg Microkorg Module (2) 1 terrabyte Lace firewire 800 drives |

Re: Mixing...
Leave the loops as is; makes no sense really to split them, so just leave them as they are...
As for the other stuff, every1 has their way; I always tell ppl that mixing!producing is basically an opinion, which isn't som'n that can be taught... Every1 has 1

Re: Mixing...
I'm with KB on this, leave the loops as stereo tracks and just use the panning controls on the track to place/move the sounds. Splitting them just gives you more tracks to deal with. Besides even if you did split them you would have to treat each half the same effects-wise, etc., or you might run into phasing problems. Much simpler to leave them as one stereo track.
(btw: how's it going KB???)

Re: Mixing...
Avoid hard and fast rules when you're mixing. Beyond watching things like level/gain structure, clocking, phase etc....You should go with what sounds good and gives the track life.
