Default HOW TO: Skip over measures?

is there a way in protools to skip over some measures during playback, rather then deleting or removing time?

i basically want to see what it sounds like to skip over a section, without having to delete the section.

what's the terminology and process for this? i can't find this?

basically, i want to select section of a protools session. have the playback start a bit before this selection, when it gets to the selection, skip it, and play the section after the highlight.

a numbered step by step would be great, or link to instructions.

sincerely,
b

You can mute the regions (CMND + M) but that doesn't skip them. You could duplicate all the playlists (OPTION Select) and then delete the measures you want gone and flip between the playlists.

Do a quick "save as" Session Name v2, and then mangle it to your heart's desire. You can always go back to Session Name if you don't like the results. Just don't do any permanent editing of any audio files (audiosuite, etc)..

I'm not going to even try to see a functional purpose in wanting to do that however I will give you a solution that will work.

-Make sure you are in Shuffle Mode
-Highlight the region and make sure all tracks are highlighted
-Do a Cut on the Region.
-Play the song
-Use the Redo Function to put the Region back

If it's really something you need to do that will do it.

This is a question only a Logic user would ask. In logic, if you draw a loop from right to left instead of left to right, logic will skip over the highlighted section during playback.

this should shed some light on the question, however i dont have an answer for you.

If you go back to the Digi DVDs they use to promote with, you will see them highlight and cut to listen without a section and that was probably 7 to 8 years ago.

Never was something big on the feature request list and may never be.

I guess they feel highlight and remove, click to put back if you want to listen without a section is good enough.

**Hope this doesn't double post**

Yes this is really from Logic Background which is really great to quickly preview a part of a song without any editing. Also you guys make it seem very easy but in fact it isn't as sometimes (as in my case) you have tempo maps, odd signatures and more things happening like automations and trim and this is not something you want to test in the session page before being sure it sounds good... I really wonder why some simple things are so complicated in pro tools and especially why hardcore pro tools fan always deem these request as unnecessary... I think there should be some way to skip between markers during playback no?

Logic started as a midi sequencer and it is still its greatest strength. Pro Tools started as a digital sound recording software and became the defacto "Audio Recording" for professional use. Which is a long way of saying-though you can use it for creating songs from midi/instruments from scratch, technically it was designed to be used to record live instruments and has been updated to add post production, midi, etc. Which is why many Pro Tools users also use Logic. They complement each others strengths-do pre production in Logic is my suggestion.

Studio One also offers this(IIRC) and it would be nice if PT allowed for it as it makes for fast auditioning of arrangement changes(and the suggestion has been sent to developers at Avid). Maybe in the future For now, Shuffle mode is your friend(with the ALL group enabled) and Save As... so your original version doesn't get hopelessly mangled
