Default Pro Tools 002 Rack with Mac OS Sierra?

Hi,

Many years ago I packed up all my Pro Tools when we had our first baby. I had to give up the studio room for a baby room. Now I've got a new space and I'm about to set everything back up, but not sure if my old set up will work with my updated iMac.

I have a brand new iMac 27 inch 2017, 4.2 GHz Intel Core I7

Will this computer work with PT 8 and a 002 or would I need to upgrade the PT software? I would like to avoid subscription since this is just a passion project and no money is made off my recordings here at home.

Do I need an older computer to make all this work?

Any suggestions on how I should set this all up to have successful sessions would be appreciated?

Thank you

Pro Tool 8 won't run above OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), so you're most likely going to need to upgrade to Pro Tools 12 for that new computer. The 002 is not officially supported anymore, but I've got one still working with Pro Tools 12. Just update it to the latest firmware.

I just upgraded my Macbook from 10.8.5 to Sierra (10.12) and from Pro Tools 10 to 12. I also have a 002r (modded by Black Lion Audio). I was worried about upgrade compatibility, but.... yes! It all works!

Actually, my whole computer is running more smoothly, Pro Tools runs more smoothly and the connection to the 002r is all more smooth than 10.8.5 and Pro Tools 10.

FYI, before upgrading, I started with Pro Tools 12 on 10.8.5 to test that (I had to update to the latest 002/003 drivers to get system audio through the 002r). It worked, AND I discovered Pro Tools 12 SOUNDS much better than PT 10! Surprised! I guess the floating point blah blah in how audio is processed makes a difference.

I also went through my important Pro Tools projects and rendered any plugins in PT10 that didn't transfer to PT12.

The 002r with system audio was a little buggy - also PT12 couldn't handle as many plugins. But once all that basically worked, I upgraded to Sierra, and wow, everything was smoother.

Hey, any reports of High Sierra working with regular (not modded) 002r? Thanks!

Hey, I'm on 10.13.3 (HS) and I just got my 002 working, mixing, fading, etc. I downloaded the 003 drivers and am using a FireWire 400 to 800 adapter, with that into a FW to Thuderbolt adapter. I was ready to get rid of the 002 and get something I could use to mix; little virtual elbow grease and VIOLA!! Best of luck.

What’s the smoothest 002 DAW OS platform folks? I have a barely used nice shape 002 Console that has a FW 400/800 connection to my late 2009 21.5 iMac 3.06 16gb 1TB 7200 rpm OS X 10.6.8, upgraded to 10.8.5 but PT not installed now. I was last recording with PT 8.03 I think or .04. Since I had previously only used PT6-7x Windows only, The PT 8 MAC produced some killer recordings, no freaky windows quirks, I swore on PT MAC. My life situation changed & I had to limit writing & recording music with my band or by myself. So my 002 was stored. My 002 works like new & I want to use it way more.

Sounds like someone got a 002r running on the newest OS X??

I want to get a new MacBook PRO. I plan to get a MB PRO & upgrade my Avid to the best version to run on a new MB PRO. If too quirky I’d rather keep PT 8 running on my 2009 iMac. Or run PT 10 or 12 On MBPRO.

Helpful input welcome and appreciated!

I paid bigger cash for my 002 new & I like it a lot.
