RME AD - 8 PRO OR LUCID 8824 ??????
Hey guys!
Im looking in the near future to buy some good converters for my digi 001 studio. But what should I get?? RME AD - 8 PRO Or LUCID 8824??? Is the lucid that much more of a leap in performance compared to the RME??? Or should i spend the extra cash on the lucid?? RME = 1200.00 Lucid = around 2300.00 |

I have the RME and really like it. Everyone has their own opinion, but I don't think you'll regret getting the RME.

Hi!
I also own the RME and I´m very happy with it! I can´t say nothing about the Lucid for I didn´t hear it so far. Just try to get both from some dealer and check them out. Greets Markus

I have the RME, too. (although it's the Nuendo OEM version). I'm pretty happy with it. It's a big upgrade to the sound of the 001 converters/clock. I plugged it in and it's been working ever since - almost two years. Not a problem.
I've heard the Lucid may sound a bit better and gets more respect in certain (a la Mercenary) circles, but haven't done a side-by-side with the two.

Re: RME AD - 8 PRO OR LUCID 8824 ??????
Oh, I remember reading a preview of the newest 3D Audio shootout CD with converters, but they omitted some really obvious ones like the 2408 and RME, while including others like Marteks and the Digi HD. If I recall correctly, they said the differences between converters were GREATER than the differences between preamps.
I didn't see it available on their website, tho'.

Very Cool Guys!@!!!
so far i think i might be leaning toard the RME now! But if anyone with a Lucid could change my mind please post some good things and some bad things about it. btw.. I think the lucid 8824 is the same as their 2 channel converter quality wise so if anyone has the 2 channel lucid, post some good things and some bad things about it. |

the lucid mate! it IS the one you want. you will be sorry down the road with the rme. there's just no comparison betwixt it and the lucid, at all, period. not if you care about the quality.
oh yes, and btw, i own the lucid ad9624. it's absolutely gorgeous sounding. best purchase i made all year. it's like someone turned the lights on. go have a listen. try to demo both units at the same time if you can. you'll hear the diff; it's quite breathtaking. good luck, ml |

hey dwdrummer, looked at ebay lately? there's a lucid 8824 at $1000 right now. it doesn't have adat lightpipe, but maybe you could buy an hardware update, or get an AES to adat converter. just a thought.

I wonder if M Lawrence ever had the good fortune to do an A/B comparison with the RME & Lucid;
