Default Buffer errors on 8 Core Mac Tower..with..

16 gbs of ram running Windows 7 64 bit..
I have a client running this configuration and I'm having nothing but problems
with it.
I've followed every optimzation suggestion on Avids website regarding
Windows.
The Processor is the Intel Xeon Westmere running 2 Processors at 2.53ghz
over 4 cores per processor.
I also have the latest (updated) UAD 2 plugins on the system as well.

So
Long story short..even small sessions (8-12 stereo tracks running at 24bit 48khz
with very few plugins) can cause a buffer underrun error.
I've adjusted buffer settings, cache settings, etc, but to no avail.
I've tried changing the number of processors available (protools see's 16)
to 8, or 10, or 4..whatever..

I've tried every setting I can possibly think of, and no luck..
The usage window will read 5% usage, and then all of a sudden.. everything
grinds to a halt.

As a side note..I've tried copies of the session on my quad core Imac
with no problems at all.

Is there an optimization protocol I'm unaware of under Windows?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My apologies for the disjointed nature of this post..
I'm a bit tired.

thanks

My first reaction is were all the latest Apple drivers loaded to run Windows 7 on the Mac Pro? These drivers are normally loaded via Bootcamp from OSX. I think there were some updates to some drivers when Lion was released. These drivers allow MS Windows 7 to work with the Apple hardware like the video card, Smartdrive, keyboard, NIC, WiFi, USB ports, etc. Perhaps your friend simply loaded Windows 7 and tried to allow plug"n"play to discover the devices which did not load the proper drivers.

Well...

What ended up happening was the Mac OS was completely wiped and Windows
was installed without any bootcamp drivers..Is there any way of getting
them as a separate install I wonder?
I've looked all over Apples site to no avail..
There only appears to be upgrades..no full installs of bootcamp..
Ah well..I'll email Apple with a request I guess..
