Default external hard drive not an audio record volume

Hi
was wondering if anyone has had this problem or has an answer.
Just upgraded to digi002 with new hard drive..
system worked great for a month now I can not record files to the hard drive or save them on the hard drive.
I keep getting the message - session must be on an audio record volume
I reformated the hard drive (pain the !@#) to mac extended with journaling off
set the owner (me) to read and write privileges along with group (which is listed as unknown) and others to read and write privileges also
Is there something in protools that I need to set or something.
my set up is 002 firewire to hard drive - hard drive firewire to computer which in the manual said was fine.
am running mac 10.3.7
if anyone can help...please be kind and throw a life saver......thanks Todd

Todd,

I've just experience the same problem. I've had my Lacie Firewire hard drive for about 2 months without any problems and now this is happening. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks is advance,
Don

Yup.

If you look under the "Windows" category, you will see "show workspace". All your drives are listed there, there is colum beside the drives with letters in it, there should be an "r" (for record) under the "A" for audio column. If there is a "t" (tranfser only) or an "p" (playback only) in the column, PT cannot record to these drives only playback or transfer. Right Click and change the settings.

i had this problem too for a long time . the thing is if you bought your external drive stock and didnt reformat it - its probably DOS formated . go into disk utility and see . and if so reformat it to mac os x extended .. that should solve aaaaall your problems . just make sure you copy any info youd want on your drive . cause youll have to tottally erase it ..
hope this helps!

I had the same problem, check out this link...

That could be your problem, mine was on a LaCie drive, and so were other peoples. Some reason LaCie drives have been changing on their own?
