Default Yikes ... I/O Hosed

After running along nicely for the past year, my I/O configuration has somehow gotten itself into a mess.

Under SETUP / HARDWARE ... the Peripherals window is showing Pro Tools Aggregate I/O.

Shouldn't the 96io boxes be displayed there? I have three on my system.

Audio only comes from the speaker in the Mac.

DigiTest shows ...

HD Native Card Clock Test: Passed.
Connector 1 Primary : Passed
Connector 1 Secondary : Passed

DigiTest shows No Device for the 96io on Connector 2 Primary. That's where the third 96io is connected.

Other than power, there are no lights on for that 96io.

The firmware version for that 96io is blank.

Will update to version 3.0 is displayed for that device

The firmware update fails at 53.18% with the following message:

Connector 2 Primary Device
Programming Failed: Data Verification
error on Flash Sector 492

I've exhausted my limited troubleshooting expertise.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be most appreciated.

Thanks ...

Go to Setup>Hardware and see what is selected as the audio engine(should be the native card I believe). Do you have the box checked for "sessions overwrite IO settings"? That would hose your IO settings if you brought in a session from another system.

Under Hardware Setup / Peripherals ... only Pro Tools Aggregate I/O is displayed in the window.

Clicking on Launch Setup App shows HD Native in the listing with 0 in / 0 out under HD Native.

The sessions overwirite box is not checked.

Default Progress ... but 96io Firmware Missing

I’ve made considerable progress in the last 30 minutes.

I did a clean uninstall of PT, rebuilt disk permissions, and reinstalled PT 10 HD.

Everything works nicely ... except the one 96io.

I get a Firmware Missing message and have not been able to get DigiTest to complete the firmware update.

Did you ever fix this problem? Having identical problems trying to set up a Hd Native rig with a 96 for a friend. Nightmare

Update :

Managed to get it working again. Here's the sorry tale.

Friend has pieced together an HD Native rig from a card, a Sonnet thunderbolt PCIe chassis, and a used 96IO. I did all the registration and downloading today for him and hooked everything up. Digitest reported no errors, but I noticed the 96 had really old firmware, so stupidly I let Digitest do the update. All was well until 40%,when it crapped out with a flash memory error, leaving the 96 with no firmware ("Missing Firmware" in digitest). Tried numerous times, same result. Uninstalled 10.3.3 and reinstalled 10.3. Monday change. Tried my laptop, same result.

Eventually I realised that every time I ran the update it crept a tiny bit further on. At about 74% some lights briefly came on. After 85% the next attempt worked fine. I must have run the update at least a hundred times.

Absolutely no idea why it behaved like this. It may have been unused for a year or more, and possibly have got quite cold in the last few weeks. Did the flash memory need "warming up"?

I suppose the lesson to be learned here is" never give up"
