Default PT Free and AMD K-6 really incompatible?

I just read on another page that there is a known incompatibility with AMD K-6 processors and Pro Tools under Windows 98. Is there anyone who has used this combination successfully? Thanks for any info you can give.

I have been able to get AMD K6-2 400 to work, but I am running ME. Also, using Delta 66 sound card which PT reproduces the sound flawlessly. Save yourself the trouble and upgrade to ME. Plus, its a nice change from 98.

Thanks, Soul Shaker, for your response. I realized after I posted that mine was really a duplicate post since there are quite a few others asking the same question. Glad to hear you have made it work with Windows ME. Thanks again.

Dear Archetina,
I'm trying the Pto Tools Free 5.0.2 with my system that is:
AMD K6-III 450/256 mb ram//8.4 gb ata33 hd/Asus p5a MB/Matrox G400 16mb sh/SB Live 1024/Terratec DMX/Win 98 SE
I've done less for now but i've tying some things and it seems that everything works fine.I've downloaded and open the demo songs and it work fine.
I think a few things: the system registry must be as clean as possible. I use Cybermedia Unistaller 5.0 to clean up my system registry and it's very effective.
Don't run any background application while using PTF, update every driver for your hardware and use as much ram as possible.

I've got a K6-2 500 (well, 450 runing a bit fast), Isis & 98se running o.k., except i've only got 2 inputs working from my Isis card. I've read some others using at least 4 inputs from the breakout box, how do you do it?
