Default Constant Crashing with PT 9.0.0

I'm experiencing nearly constant crashes. (See my profile for the computer setup.) I'm running into a Black Lion Audio modified 002R.

I have fully uninstalled (clean) and re-installed ProTools seven times now, and the problem continues. Now, when I try to instantiate a send, it crashes. This, however, is not the only time it crashes. It seems capricious...it'll crash for any reason (notably, when a client is present.)

Oddly, there are no labels on any of my plugins. I've tried holding down the shift key to launch without plugins, but the plugins still launch(???)

Does anyone have any clues as to why this is happening, and what I can do to fix it?

Make absolutely sure all of your plugins and/or rewire apps (like reason/record) are up to date.

Then... check again.

Incompatible plugins are easily the most common reason for instability.

Since the shift key when starting function is not working to prevent your plugins from loading, try dragging all your plugins into the unused plugins folder and restart. Check to see if PT still crashes. If not, start to drag the plugins back one at a time and restart PT and check for stability before repeating for the next plugin. It is a tedious process but a reasonable way to troubleshoot your problem it it is plugin related.

I always remind people to record to a approved physically separate drive and to set their playback engine to one processor core less that they actually have to ensure non-realtime plugins have a processor to use.

FWIW: My PT 9.0.1 system is running very smoothly so I think it is possible.

Also, since you say that your plugs have no labels it sounds like you have a font issue described in any number of threads going right now.. do a search to learn how to resolve that.. it may just clear up your other issues as well..

For me, 9.0 on a 8 core running 10.6.5 flawlessly. PT has never worked so well for me..

Hi,

Just to clarify!! you need to hold down shift key when you open the "session" (not when launching pt) this has always worked so would be surprised if its not working for you.

Your plugins have no labels??? do you mean in the plugin folder they are not showing their version numbers? if so you right click in the folder and set version in the view options.

Important that you use the combo updater for apple OS updates, so try running the 10.6.5 combo updater!

Plugins are the major cause of all issues!!!! did you install over a previous version of pro tools? you need to check ALL third party plugins are up to date and remove any old demos or out of date plugs from the plugs folder!!! you must also trash prefs to empty the plugins cache!!!!!!!!

Uninstalling PT does not remove optional and third party plugins they have to be removed manually then trash prefs to empty cache

Go to FontBook and check your fonts. You may have some system fonts missing.
