Default Recording Monitoring Levels...

Hi all,
I ran into a problem the other night and for the life of me can't figure it out. I don't even know what to call it to search for an answer! Here's how it used to work... Say I was recording a guitar. While recording, I could move the fader up and down and the volume of the guitar would follow while I monitored myself recording. I could record with the guitar at whatever level sounded good to me. Suddenly, the slider is doing nothing during the recording. The guitar is sounding as if it's at unity no matter what I do with the slider. Tough to record like that!
I tried pre and post metering, auto and input monitoring. Dunno what else to do...

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance!

The volume slider only affects the playback, not the record level.

yeah, I know...I'm not being clear I guess...
While I'm recording, the slider will usually allow me to hear the instrument I'm recording louder or softer in the mix. (Not affecting the levels of course) This function is what has stopped working.

I understand what your talking about. I do the same with vocals. Increasing the fader of the armed track to better hear that track during recording, not effecting the recording.

I couldn't let you why it would stop working. Only things I can think of is either there is automation of the track or you have an aux fed by pre fader.

As far as any setting that may gotten switched or if this is happening with a new track, I'm not sure.

I'll check and see if there's a sneaky bus... but I think it's just a clean channel strip. I'm not there right now. Weird. Thank you though for answering.

Clean strip...no busses. I rebooted and it worked for a little while, then went away again. How strange...

Sounds like direct monitoring. Is this an M-Audio or Digidesign interface?

Trashing Prefs and rebooting is the first thing to try when ANY odd behavior pops up.

What inteface? What O/S? LE version? Are you talking about the fader on the Mix screen or a fader on a controller?
