Default First Time Backup of PT8

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the best plan for this. MacBook 2.2 Intel 4gb ram OSX10.5.5. I use SuperDuper for back up. I've upgraded from 7.4.2 to 8, and I'm just wondering if I should manually erase everything on the backup drive to get rid of anything related to 7.4.2 and then backup everything, OR let SuperDuper figure it all out.
