Default audio books

I have been asked to work on an audio book. Being more of a reader of books than a listener of audio books, is reverb generally added to these audio books or a little compression and eq'd a bit. Thanks

A nice flanger, and bitcrusher should do the trick.

First question is this reading only or are there effects or music in the background?
In general, I would think an IR reverb would be very helpful here. You can choose a location from which you are reading. Anywhere from a small room to an auditorium can be dialed into an IR reverb. Is your recording room treated well? What is the response of the room, bright, dark, dead? A good room will take care of most of what you are asking. The main reason I can see for a reverb is to give somewhat of a stereo image. However, if you have a good bright room, consider using a quality Mid-Side mic so your mix will be both stereo and mono compatable with minimal treatment.

I have recorded (and edited) several audio books for a major publisher-no reverb. Cheekypaul hit the nail on the head, might just add "good mic" to his list. "Good reader" is probably the most important element.
