Default Apollo - FireWire vs Thunderbolt

With the free Satellite giveaway, I am really thinking hard about pulling the trigger on the UAD Apollo Quad Rack. Excuse me if this question has been posted but I could not find it. My iMac is FireWire. Is it true that I cannot connect a new generation Apollo with Thunderbolt to my iMac FireWire? Could a converter cable work (if they make them)? Or is my only choice a 1st gen Apollo with my FireWire iMac.

Definitely go with the Thunderbolt as the old FW units are worth half or less.

Just use a FW to Thunderbolt adapter and they are like $20 or so.

When you get a new Mac with Thunderbolt your are set, othr wise you have to use a adapter then too.

Also the Bandwith of FW and Tbolt on the Apollo Satellites are very different, the Thunderbolt is way better and FW will never get the same amount of plugins as the Thunderbolt 2 will so get the Tbolt Satellite and use an adater for now.

I don't believe it works that way. The adapters are not bidirectional.

Unless you have TB on your computer, I don't think it will work.

Perhaps they can be connected either way, but it is my understanding that this is not the case.
